The Denver Nuggets star earned the league's MVP title in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself late in the first half following an accidental collision with teammate Spencer Jones.

His teammate came down on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly collapsed to the floor grabbing his knee.

The veteran player, that tops the NBA this season in rebounds and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to incurring the problem.

The player is scheduled for an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the extent of the problem.

"Immediately, Jokic realized there was a problem," said Nuggets head coach David Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, most notably somebody as important as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Of course, at this moment, I am more concerned about him personally and the letdown of experiencing something like that."
