Former Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor has been charged with committing sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
One deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
These allegations come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
