Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
