A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
